Buprofezin Insecticide Homopterous insects agrochemicals
BUPROFEZIN is known as one of the most successful IGRs (Insect Growth Regulator) in the world for control of Homopterous insects such as planthoppers, whiteflies, mealybugs and scale insects, and is widely used in more than 80 countries.
It is a growth regulator, acting as an inhibitor of chitin synthesis.
being especially toxic to aquatic organisms as well as non-target insects, though is of low toxicity to humans and other mammals.
Buprofezin (Applaud), a new insecticide, is highly selective. It is effective at low rates against nymphs of Nilapartvata lugens (Stal) (Delphacidae),
Sogatella furcifera (Horvath) (Delphacidae) and Nephotettix virescens (Distant) (Cicadellidae) but safe to their predators,
Lycosa pseudoannulata (Boes. and Str.) (Lycosidae), Cyrtorhinus lividipennis Reuter (Miridae), and Microvelia atrolineata (Bergroth) (Veliidae).
Because hopper death occurs at molting, adult hoppers are not affected.
Residual activity of buprofezin in insectary and field tests was longer than that of currently used carbamate insecticides.
